I learned about this hotel in the city center from a local who ran the little pub that's now a store. I couldn't believe the price! But that was then. Price is now over $20, and TripAdvisor gives it a four-star.
Customers have complained that you can hear the person in the next bathroom, eew, and that hot water is only in the shower, not in the sink.
The street entrance leads into the courtyard, then to your right - the wrought iron gate opens at the push of the button that rings the bell. Someone will come to help with your luggage at your request. For added security, you now must ring the outside bell.

In this transformed perfectly restored child friendly house, your stay includes:
Plus, a coupon for a free breakfast in the downstairs cafe came included when I stayed. The San Francisco does not own the cafe. Tap water might present a problem - it did for me, so bring your own bottled water or drink coffee. The food certainly rates high.
Be sure to ask for a room to the inside away from the traffic, or it can get noisy.
Just a few steps away, you have many choices of restaurants in the historic downtown!
Count this colonial hotel as a definite value.
