Around Quito

December brings the lighting of the Nativity Scene on El Panecillo. The mayor's wife, Maria Fernanda Pacheco, continued the tradition without a hitch on December 16 at twilight.

The foundation Queen of Quito through the queen of the year, Carolina Baez, distributed toys to Quito children, a 20-year-old tradition. About 500 children benefited. Every year a different section of Quito is chosen. This year, social media got wind of it, and distorted it into a frenzy as if this were the first queen to ever do this.

Ecuador Problems - Solutions

The first case of chikungunya from the mosquito has emerged. My solution - live in Quito. It's too high and too cool for lots of bugs, especially mosquitos. Mosquitos love my blood.

Smog has turned into a big problem of late with more Ecuadorians buying cars, but the biggest problem is with the buses. That's why they're working on raising the fare from 25 cents/12 cents. Maintenance is paramount.

In addition, smog will be measured starting today as a first step towards minimizing it.

When the rain doesn't come, the air doesn't clear.

Tourism in Ecuador

The New Year celebrations returned to Amazonas and presented a festival of parades with some streets closing from 6 AM to 8PM intermittently.

International Living has again declared Ecuador as number 1 for living in, especially Cuenca.
