Around Quito

This Mitad del Mes brings Ecuador to the top of the world news! I purposely waited until Rafael Correa would tell us if he'd OK the Julian Assange request to rescue him from those who love to attack whisleblowers. I have to say I admire President Rafael Correa's courage with Britain foaming at the mouth!

Assange's mom met with the prez, and the lawyer that defended Pinochet, Baltazar Garzon has volunteered to represent him gratis for the sake of freedom of speech. It seems that those who pride themselves for this precious freedom set up different rules when the truth leaks out about them.

It wasn't easy, I'm sure, being holed up in the embassy until after the Olympics, as, I'm sure, it wasn't an easy decision for little Ecuador to make.

Now, let's see how this continuing drama unfolds!

Ecuador Problems - Solutions

An Ecuadorian court adjusted Chevron's bill for damages on the Amazon to more than $19 Billion, and Chevron keeps getting in trouble with others as well.

And, according to the Wall Street Journal, Ecuador's government plans to strengthen the dollarization system in Ecuador by boosting domestic liquidity.

Tourism in Ecuador

Ecuador Independence Day, August 10, brought a whole three-day weekend of celebrations. Music resonated throughout... and goodies were everywhere.
